Below, the State had successfully argued that since the defendant had absconded for six years during the proceedings the 10 years requirement had been tolled. In vacating the extended term Justice LAMPKIN finds that, &#8220;the unambiguous <span id=\"lw_1262979976_0\" style=\"BACKGROUND: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed\">plain language<\/span> of the statute provides no tolling provision when a defendant causes a delay in proceedings thereby preventing a prior conviction from being a qualifying offense.&#8221; (Slip Opinion at p. 10). <\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small; color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.il.us\/court\/Opinions\/AppellateCourt\/2009\/1stDistrict\/December\/1081090.pdf\">People v.
