  • Election Results

    Local 3315 members,

I have finally gotten a ballot count from all locations and can report the results for last week’s election.

Winners for executive at large are Joe Gump, Tim Leeming, and Kevin Ochalla.  Following the formula in the election manual to determine the number of votes necessary for a majority, a winning candidate would have to get at least 139 votes to not face a run-off.  Joe, Tim and Kevin all received at least 139 votes so a run-off is not necessary for any of the 3 positions.

Thank you to Gwen Brown, Elise Epstein, Gorgeen Carson, Larry Kuglar, Quandee Semrow, Erin Farrell, Linda Perez, Arleen Floren, Rick Kruss, Ed Kozibowski, Robyn Haynes, and Kyan Keenan for your help running the poll sites.

Thank you to all the candidates for your enthusiasm and dedication which made this an interesting election.

  • Jon Terry Named 27th Jack Carey Scholar

Jon Terry, who is expected to graduate in May 2012 from Chicago Kent College of Law, was selected as the winner of the Summer 2011 Jack Carey Scholarship by the selection committee.

A graduate of Boise State University, Jon taught English in Kyrgyzstan while volunteering for the Peace Corps.  Following his two years in the former Soviet Union, he gained considerable writing experience as an editor at Heldref Publications in Washington D.C. before starting law school at Chicago Kent.

Clinical professor Daniel Coyne of the Law Offices of Chicago Kent-College of Law states, “Mr. Terry’s unique life experience makes him an indispensable component to the clinical environment at Chicago Kent.  His demonstrated ability to function effectively in a variety of non-traditional environments serves him well in navigating the criminal justice system in Cook County.”

Under the supervision of Assistant Public Defender Kyan Keenan (26th), Jon has been doing motions and trials before Judge James Linn at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse at 26th Street.  Jon’s goal is to have a long and rewarding career defending indigent people.  Congratulations Jon — and best wishes.
